Inicialmente, Jomané via-se como um jogador amador de póker, estatuto que ainda hoje defende para si próprio. No entanto, a mesma seriedade relativa era colocada nas suas acções promocionais e no site Poker PT. Segundo João Nunes, a sua transformação de entusiasta e blogger amador do poker a grande embaixador português da modalidade deu-se um bocado por acaso. O seu envolvimento com o poker foi-se tornando cada vez sério, até ao ponto em que “um ‘hobby’ e uma brincadeira passou a tornar-se uma empresa”, como confessou numa entrevista ao jornal P3 em 2012.

Em 2006, João Nunes juntou-se ao Casino de Espinho para organizar aquele que foi o primeiro torneio oficial de poker de sempre em Portugal. O Poker PT esteve na organização desse evento único e que ficará indelevelmente marcado na história do jogo no nosso país, mas o papel deste site da especialidade foi muito para além desse torneio pioneiro.
No Poker PT gerou-se a maior comunidade portuguesa de poker, com mais de 50 mil membros activos; foi lá que nasceu a semente que acabaria por fazer do poker um dos jogos favoritos dos portugueses, que vai colhendo cada vez mais adeptos, contando com cada vez mais competições, envolvendo prémios cada vez maiores, e assistindo a uma crescente profissionalização.
Hoje em dia, 4 pessoas trabalham a tempo inteiro na gestão e manutenção do Poker PT, que continua a ser o principal serviço de comunicação do jogo no nosso país.
